Measuring system for monitoring the environment and infrastructure

Download Factsheet

What is Plasser InfraScan?

Track infrastructure and adjacent structures must be inspected regularly to meet the high safety requirements of railway operations. Plasser InfraScan provides early detection of dangers (for example, infringements of the structure gauge caused by tree branches) and serves as a database for re-opening sections of track following renewal work on the superstructure or overhead contact line. The measurement can be performed in regular train service and after renewal work.

The data recorded by the system can be used to analyse the structure gauge, ballast distribution, measurements of the track platform and contact wire positions as well as the distance to the adjacent track.

Benefits

  • Automated measurement, no disruption to railway operations
  • Data collection at speeds of up to 100 km/h
  • Greater safety through more frequent and more comprehensive inspections
  • Fewer staff in the danger zone and reduced operating costs
  • Consistent measuring quality, independent of individual operator influence

Measuring runs during regular operation

Installed on a track construction and maintenance machine, the system can check the treated track in relation to the environment directly after work. Any necessary corrections can be made immediately, saving time and staff. Alternatively, the Plasser InfraScan’s high measuring speed allows it to perform all inspections on a track inspection vehicle during regular train service - no track possessions required. In both cases, the system generates measuring parameters of equally high quality.

Part of an integrated system

The data obtained from the environment measurement can be displayed and evaluated directly on the machine. Parameters relevant to documentation are stored in the work documentation within the Plasser OperatingSystem (Plasser SmartReporting).

This allows you to access relevant data via the cloud whenever and wherever you want.

High measurement accuracy, as no further compensation using additional sensors is required up to the top of the rail. The reference points, such as the top of rail, are captured directly during the scan.

Integration with other Plasser systems is easy. For example, distances from adjacent tracks can be displayed as separate channels in DRP and Plasser OS, enabling even more detailed inspection and acceptance reports to be produced once work has been completed.

Plasser InfraScan

Available measuring parameters:

  • Distance to the adjacent track
  • Measurement of the distance to the platform edge
  • Measurement of the distribution and amount of ballast

Plasser InfraScan Pro

Available measuring parameters:

  • Distance to the adjacent track
  • Measurement of the distance to the platform edge
  • Measurement of the distribution and amount of ballast
  • Measurement of the overhead contact line position
  • Analysis of the structure gauge

Products

The choice of sensor hardware determines which measuring parameters can be enabled.

With Plasser InfraScan Ready, the machine is prepared for a later retrofit of the system.
