What is Plasser ClearanceScan?
Plasser ClearanceScan is a LiDAR-based measuring system for realtime clearance gauge analysis and infringement detection. Using high-speed 360° laser scanning, it generates localized 2D/3D profiles of the space surrounding the track and compares them with customer-specific clearance gauges. The applied clearance gauge
can be static or dynamically adapted according to track position and line characteristics, such as curves or other local conditions. The system supports run-to-run comparisons, compliance checks, and reporting of clearance gauge infringements.

LiDAR-based clearance acquisition
Plasser ClearanceScan captures the available clearance gauge during vehicle runs, generating a continuous sequence of localized crosssections around the track. High-speed LiDAR data is synchronized with odometer and positioning information, creating the measurement basis for clearance gauge comparison, infringement detection, and repeatable run-to-run comparisons.
Static and dynamic clearance gauge management
The system supports customer-specific clearance gauge management. The applied clearance gauge can be static or dynamically adapted according to track position, line characteristics, and network-specific rules, allowing the analysis to reflect real operating constraints.
Infringement detection and comparison
Measured profiles are compared in real time against up to three configurable clearance gauges or threshold levels to detect potential infringements. Run-to-run comparison helps identify changes over time, recurring restrictions, and newly emerging clearance gauge issues.
Reporting and compliance support
Plasser ClearanceScan automatically generates reports highlighting infringements, affected locations, and compliance status. Localized clearance gauge information supports line availability assessments, maintenance planning, and evidence-based decisions on clearance gauge infringements.
