Reliable data exchange wherever you operate
Railway-certified IoT gateway for secure, bi-directional data connectivity
What is Plasser DataConnector?
Plasser DataConnector is a railway-certified IoT edge gateway that connects railway vehicles and on-board systems with digital back-office applications. It integrates with machine control systems from different manufacturers and provides direct sensor communication, enabling secure synchronization of machine, operational, and recorded data. GNSS (GPS, Galileo, etc.) and mobile connectivity up to 5G provide localization and reliable data exchange. External modem support, including satellite communication systems, extends connectivity in remote environments. Local buffering keeps data available during network interruptions. Its reliability is proven in daily operation, with nearly 2,000 units deployed worldwide today.
Benefits
- Seamlessly connect on-board and back-office data
- Synchronize data automatically in both directions
- Maintain data availability during network interruptions
- Enable secure remote access and fleet-wide updates
- Monitor critical events even when machines are switched off
Connected data integration
Plasser DataConnector integrates with machine control systems from different manufacturers and directly interacts with sensors, providing a common connectivity layer across diverse fleets and vehicle platforms. Data synchronization enables machine, operational, and recorded data to flow securely between on-board and back-office environments.
Reliable data availability
Mobile connectivity up to 5G enables data exchange during operation, while external modems, including satellite communication systems, can extend coverage in remote environments. When no network is available, data can be stored locally for months and synchronized automatically once connectivity is restored.
Low-power event monitoring
A low-power operating mode remains active even when the machine is switched off. Critical events, such as shocks or impacts can be detected automatically, prompting the Plasser DataConnector to activate its communication interfaces and transmit event data for notification and follow-up.
Secure remote access
Secure VPN connectivity enables authorized technicians to access the machine network remotely for diagnostics, maintenance, and software support. A physical switch on the machine provides an additional authorization layer, helping prevent unauthorized remote access.
Centralized software updates
Over-the-air updates can be centrally managed and rolled out efficiently across connected fleets, simplifying software maintenance and reducing the effort required for individual machine updates.
Railway-certified connectivity
Designed for demanding railway environments, Plasser DataConnector is certified according to relevant international standards, including EN 50155 and EN 50121-3-2, and meets CE and FCC requirements.
Continuous positioning and precise timing
Integrated GNSS provides vehicle localization, while dead reckoning maintains positioning during temporary GNSS outages, such as in tunnels, urban environments, or densely wooded areas.
The Plasser DataConnector acts as a central time source for connected vehicle systems, ensuring synchronized timestamps and accurate alignment of operational and recorded data. Time synchronization is distributed via industry-standard protocols such as PTP (Precision Time Protocol), providing a consistent and precise time reference across all connected systems.
Connected to the digital Plasser ecosystem
Plasser DataConnector provides the connectivity layer between railway vehicles and digital applications. By securely synchronizing operational and recorded data between on-board and back-office environments, it enables connected workflows with solutions such as Plasser DataMatic and Plasser OperatingSystem.
