Bringing overhead contact lines into focus
High-resolution video monitoring with automated asset analysis
What is Plasser CatenaryView?
Plasser CatenaryView is a modular, roof-mounted video inspection system for monitoring the pantograph-contact wire interaction and selected overhead contact line components. Typically integrated with contact wire geometry and wear measuring systems, it acquires localized high-resolution images of the overhead contact line area in both daylight and nighttime conditions, with optional thermal imaging for hot-spot detection.
The system is available as Plasser CatenaryView and Plasser CatenaryView Pro. It supports either visual evidence review or automated asset and defect analysis across customer-specific overhead contact line inspection scopes.
Benefits
- Reduced need for manual inspections at height
- Improved interpretation of geometry and wear data
- Enhanced evidence for maintenance decision making
- Earlier detection of abnormal contact conditions
- Faster assessment of critical overhead contact line assets
- Unattended monitoring
Pantograph contact zone monitoring
Plasser CatenaryView provides a dedicated visual view of the pantograph-contact wire interaction from the vehicle roof. High-resolution images are acquired at configurable spatial intervals and associated with localization data, supporting the review of contact conditions, abnormal wear signs, arcing evidence, and other irregularities affecting current collection and abnormal wear.
Thermal inspection (optional)
An optional thermal camera can be integrated alongside the visual camera to detect hot spots in the overhead contact line area. Thermal imaging supports the identification of abnormal heating conditions on contact wire interfaces, fittings, or electrical connections, providing additional evidence for maintenance prioritization.
Expandable overhead contact line asset coverage
The system can be expanded with additional cameras to monitor a wider portfolio of overhead contact line assets. Depending on customer requirements, the inspection scope may include contact wires, droppers, insulators, conductors, fittings, switches, feeding arrangements, support and registration components, anchoring systems, and bonding elements. With Plasser CatenaryView Pro, selected assets and defect classes can also be automatically recognized and assessed.
Integrated overhead contact line information
Image data can be synchronized with contact wire geometry and wear measurements to provide a more complete view of the overhead contact line infrastructure. Localized visual evidence helps infrastructure owners interpret measured parameters, validate suspected anomalies, and support maintenance planning with clearer, asset-specific information.
